Loyola Law School Los Angeles Wins 2020 Syracuse National Trial Competition

Loyola Law School Los Angeles has repeated as the winner of this year’s Syracuse National Trial Competition. Loyola prevailed over Georgetown Law in the final round. University of Buffalo Law School and St. John’s University Law School were semi-finalists.

Individual awards were given to:

  • Best Opening Statement – Lauren Dillingham from the University of South Carolina School of Law Best Direct Examination – Charron Varona from Loyola Law School Los Angeles
  • Best Cross-Examination – Ryan Falk from University of Buffalo Law School
  • Best Closing Argument – Molly Goodwill from Stetson University College of Law
  • Best Overall Advocate – Rachel Williams from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University

SNTC, among the first national virtual trial competitions in the 2020-2021 academic year, featured nearly 50 trials before 150 judge and evaluator panels, with the participation of 100 students. Judges and evaluators from around the country provided thoughtful feedback to the students who argued Martin v. Francis, – a matter of voting rights and election law –a very timely and relevant legal matter.

Syracuse University College of Law would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the schools that participated in this year’s competition. It was a hard-fought, close competition from the first opening argument to the last closing argument.
