Professor Martin is the principal attorney at the law firm of The Donald J. Martin Law Firm, P.C. in Syracuse, New York and practices with a concentration in matrimonial and family law matters. He practices in the Insurance Litigation and Product Liability Defense and Family Law Practice Groups. He is an experienced trial attorney with extensive commercial, civil, and criminal litigation experience. He has also handled appeals before the New York State Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. Professor Martin has represented a broad range of clients in a variety of commercial and civil litigation, including personal injury defense and insurance defense. He is also experienced handling New York State Supreme Court matrimonial and family law matters. Professor Martin has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Syracuse University College of Law since the mid 1980’s, teaching in the disciplines of civil trial advocacy and criminal law. Professor Martin is a member of the American, New York State, State of Hawaii, and Onondaga County Bar Associations, and serves as a lecturer for continuing legal education with the New York State Bar Association. He served as senior editor of the Syracuse Law Review.

From 1969 through 1974, Professor Martin served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, Judge Advocate General Corps, defending court martial cases throughout the Asian Pacific area. Professor Martin was co-founder and senior litigation partner of the Syracuse based law firm Martin, Martin & Woodard LLC which merged with Harris Beach in 2004.

Professor Martin is actively involved in a variety of community and civic organizations. He is a member of the United Way’s Finance and Investment Committees and previously served as treasurer of the United Way of Central New York. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Community Health Center, and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Museum of Science & Technology.
