Hon. Patrick J. O’Sullivan is a New York State Supreme Court Justice for the Sixth Judicial District on the Madison County Supreme Court. Supreme Court has unlimited, original jurisdiction, and has broad authority to hear all categories of cases, including civil and criminal matters. Justice O’Sullivan previously served for six years as County Court Judge in Madison County, which was a multi-bench judicial position (County, Family and Surrogate’s Courts). He also served for ten years as a Town Justice and five years as an Acting Village Justice. As a lawyer, he was a seasoned trial attorney with more than two decades of litigation experience, having tried cases to a verdict in State and Federal Courts throughout Upstate New York. He was a long-time member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and had been recognized by his peers as one of the top trial attorneys in Upstate New York.
Justice O’Sullivan, who was born and raised in the Bronx, obtained his J.D. degree from Western Michigan University – Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 1993, received his M.S. degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York in 1990, and completed his B.S. degree at Daemen College in Amherst, New York in 1985. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Judicial Wellness Committee and a member of Lawyer’s Assistance Program Committee.
Justice O’Sullivan teaches Trial Practice at Syracuse University College of Law and was a member of the adjunct faculty at the State University of New York at Morrisville, where he taught New York Criminal Procedure and New York Penal Law. Prior to becoming an attorney, he was a high school science teacher in New York City.
Justice O’Sullivan lives in Cazenovia, New York with his wife, Susan, and their three children: Jacqueline, Hannah, and Jake.
