Eugene F. McCarthy

Eugene McCarthy is an Associate Professor of Law. He teaches Contracts, Business Associations, Securities Regulation, and related courses.

Eugene’s research is in the field of critical corporate studies, which examines how corporate law incentivizes corporations and executives to profit via antisocial and criminal conduct. This multidisciplinary research agenda examines the history, theory, culture, and socio-legal consequences of the corporate form. 

His recent work is published or is forthcoming in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, the Brooklyn Law Review, and the Rutgers University Law Review, among other law journals.

Prior to joining Syracuse University College of Law, McCarthy was an Assistant Professor of Business Law at James Madison University. At James Madison, he received the Dr. Otto C. Brenner Memorial Award for the Outstanding Teacher in the College of Business, the Dean’s Impact Award, and was a finalist for the College of Business Distinguished Teacher Award. 

McCarthy was previously a corporate associate in the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

McCarthy received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law and his Ph.D. in rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. He is admitted to the State Bar of California.
