Richard Levy, Jr., is a senior member of the Bankruptcy, Reorganization and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group at Pryor Cashman LLP in New York City, and Distinguished Lecturer in Law at Syracuse University College of Law, teaching Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Law in its JDinteractive online degree program.

Experienced in all phases of bankruptcy and insolvency cases and related litigation and appeals, Rich has represented businesses, individuals, official and unofficial committees, Chapter 11 trustees, and indenture trustees of public debt. He counsels clients in connection with bankruptcy and creditors’ rights issues in corporate, commercial and real estate transactions and intellectual property licensing matters, and often represents parties seeking to purchase assets from debtor’s estates in bankruptcy cases. He is also responsible for his firm’s issuance of bankruptcy-related third-party closing opinions on business transactions, including non-consolidation ‎opinions, true sale opinions, and opinions regarding the eligibility of business entities to file for bankruptcy protection under applicable laws. Rich is a lecturer on bankruptcy topics for his law firm’s internal training programs and for outside continuing legal education programs.

Rich graduated from Syracuse University College of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 1977) as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Justinian Honorary Law Society. He was Notes & Comments Editor of the Syracuse Law Review and a research assistant to Prof. Thomas J. Maroney. Rich served for nine years on the board of directors of the Syracuse University Law Alumni Association, including service as a member of its executive committee, and co-chair of its Syracuse Law Honors Committee, which administers the annual Law Honors Awards conferred at each Law Alumni Weekend.

A graduate of Williams College (B.A., cum laude, with honors in Political Economy, 1974), Rich was President of the Society of Alumni of Williams College from 2006-08, during which he was the non-voting delegate of the Society to the College’s board of trustees. He was vice president of the Society from 2004-006, and a member of its executive committee from 1999-2002. He remains active in alumni affairs and activities as president of his Class.

Rich is a member of the boards of the Williamstown Theatre Foundation, Inc., a Massachusetts not-for profit corporation, and the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation.
