Meet Nina (Sangwan) Han
Nina (Sangwan) Han has professional experience in legal services, legal technology, and international policy research. She is also a UNRISD-APOHS Junior Scholar, where her research focuses on technology governance, responsible business conduct, and the legal and institutional challenges created by emerging technologies.
Her professional and research experience shaped her interest in corporate law, compliance, international commercial law, and technology regulation, particularly how companies navigate complex legal and regulatory environments across jurisdictions. She chose to attend law school to develop the legal expertise necessary to address these challenges at the intersection of business, technology, and regulation.
After graduation, she hopes to work in corporate, compliance, or regulatory practice, advising companies on cross-border regulatory issues, risk management, corporate governance, and responsible business conduct.
We asked Nina to share more about her journey and what she is most looking forward to at Syracuse Law.
What is your hometown?
Seoul, South Korea.
What's a specific moment that made you certain law school was the next step?
My work in legal services first showed me how much business decisions are shaped by legal and regulatory frameworks, but my international policy research made the need for legal training even clearer. While researching technology governance and responsible business conduct, I became increasingly interested in the gap between broad policy goals and the legal rules that organizations actually have to interpret and implement. I realized that I did not only want to study these systems from a policy perspective,; I want the legal training to understand how they operate in practice and to help organizations navigate them. That was when law school became the clear next step for me.
What are you most looking forward to about student life at Syracuse Law?
I'm especially looking forward to learning alongside classmates with different professional, cultural, and academic backgrounds and becoming part of the Syracuse Law community. I'm also excited to explore opportunities beyond the classroom that will allow me to connect my interests in corporate law, international law, compliance, and technology regulation with practical legal experience. Most of all, I'm looking forward to seeing how my interests evolve as I begin studying law from a new perspective.
