Professor Gaurav Mukherjee Co-Authors “What We Lose When Lawyers Let LLMs Write” at Verfassungsblog

Associate Professor of Law Gaurav Mukherjee has co-authored the article, “What We Lose When Lawyers Let LLMs Write,” with Tuhin Chakrabarty at Verfassungsblog symposium “Thinking Machines, Thinking Lawyers.”

The article asks, how does the rapid adoption and spread of Large Language Models (LLMs) affect legal writing? How is lawyering changing at a time when delegating the first draft to a machine has never been easier? The authors argue that legal reasoning and legal writing are often inextricably interwoven, and that the legal community may risk losing some forms of creative lawyering when we offload cognitive tasks to the LLM.

Chakrabarty is an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department at Stony Brook University, an Affiliate at the Institute for Advanced Computational Science, and a Visiting Professor at Salesforce AI Research.
