Financial Aid Available to J.D. Students at Syracuse University College of Law
You have options on how to finance your legal education at Syracuse. Awards are made to J.D. students through a variety of institutional, federal, and outside resources.
- Merit-based Scholarships are awarded to selected incoming first-year J.D. students during the admission application process. All prospective law students (including US Citizens, Permanent Residents, and international students) are considered for merit-based scholarships. Merit scholarships are renewable during a student’s enrollment with good academic standing.
- College of Law awards include special scholarships and grants, often funded through the generosity of alumni and donors. Students must meet award criteria to qualify (ex: curricular pursuits, practice-interests, financial need).
- Federal Student Aid for eligible J.D. students may consist of Federal Direct Loans and/or Federal Work Study.
- Yellow Ribbon and other VA Benefits provide financial support for eligible student veterans or dependents of veterans to attend law school. Students apply for educational benefits through the VA and then work with the College of Law Financial Aid Office and Syracuse University’s Office of Veteran Success to process the award.
- Outside Scholarships offering eligibility to law students are reviewed and posted in the College’s Scholarship Database. There may be other outside scholarships that you find through your own research. In addition to the opportunities we post, law students have also found opportunities through search engines, including:
