Benjamin John Bucko L’53 passes away
Benjamin John Bucko L’53 passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023. Mr. Bucko graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont, NH, in 1942, and in April of 1943 he enlisted in the armed forces and served in the 20th Air Force in Guam until Feb. 1946. He enrolled in Syracuse University where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He graduated in 1950 and then attended Syracuse University Law School, graduating in 1953, and was admitted to the bar that same year. Hon. Donald A. Greenwood L’81 designated to Appellate Division
Justice Donald A. Greenwood L’81 was designated to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department on January 26, 2023, by Governor Kathy Hochul.
Prior to that, Justice Greenwood had served as a Supreme Court Justice since August of 2004, having been appointed by Governor Pataki and confirmed by the New York State Senate. He was elected to a fourteen-year term in November of 2004 and was re-elected in 2018. Justice Greenwood had been a Commercial Justice of the New York State Supreme Court in Onondaga County since 2011 and presided over Commercial Division and Tax Certiorari cases in Onondaga County, as well as medical malpractice, personal injury, and general civil cases.
Before taking the bench, Justice Greenwood was in private practice, concentrating in litigation, real estate, and labor law matters. He has also served as DeWitt Town Attorney, Special Counsel to several municipalities, as an Onondaga County Assistant District Attorney, Deputy County Attorney, as well as a criminal defense attorney as a member of the Assigned Counsel panel and homicide list and Law Guardian in Family Court. He was a former Board Member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and was responsible for community outreach as Chair of the Communications Committee and was creator and host of “Attorneys On-Call” television program.
Justice Greenwood is a graduate of the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business and received an MBA from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. He is a graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law. He lives in DeWitt with his wife and two children.

Susan E. Upward L’15 is serving as a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps, currently stationed as the Legal Services Support Team Officer-in-Charge at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC. Upward completed her Master of Laws in Homeland and National Security Law at Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School in January 2022. Since then, she published a journal article entitled “The American Security Drone Act: America’s Paper Tiger vs. China’s Trojan Horse” in the American University National Security Law Brief (12 Am. U. Nat’l Sec. L. Brief 25 (2022)), as well as a book chapter entitled “Ducks Pick Ducks – The Military’s Institutionalized Unconscious Bias Challenge” in Extending Justice: Reducing Bias (Carolina Academic Press, 2022). She has a third article scheduled to be published in the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice in April 2023 entitled “Empaneling ‘Fair and Impartial’ Members: The Case for Inclusion of an Implicit Bias Instruction at Courts-Martial.” Additionally, she has been a speaker and panelist discussing unconscious bias at several events in 2022, including the Sea Service Leadership Association (SSLA) Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium in Norfolk, VA; the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL; and multiple military symposiums and training across the country. She received the Marine Corps Major Megan McClung Leadership Award from the SSLA in July 2022.

Currently, Polio currently serves as Deputy General Counsel to the Republican Governors Association. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carmen E. Shea Fanelli L’19 has joined Helsell Fetterman — a Seattle- based law firm serving businesses, organizations, and individuals. Shea is part of the firm’s Trust and Estate Litigation practice group.
At Helsell Fetterman, Shea’s practice will focus on assisting clients in matters involving will contests, trust disputes, fiduciary abuse, vulnerable adult protection actions and elder abuse. Prior to joining Helsell Fetterman, Shea was a litigator with a small firm in Grays Harbor.
Shea graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law in 2019. While in law school, Shea was the editor for Journal of International Law and Commerce. Prior to law school, she attended Arizona State University and graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Psychology and attended Grand Canyon University and graduated in 2016 with a M.S. in I-O Psychology.

Diana Rogatch has joined the firm’s Brownfield Practice Group. She successfully passed the Uniform Bar Examination in April 2022, and she is currently admitted to practice law in Colorado. She will be admitted to practice law in New York State in January 2023.
Diana comes to Bousquet Holstein with a passion for connecting with clients. Diana is returning to the firm after taking part in the 2021 class of Summer Associates where she assisted with tax, business, and litigation matters. Her experience includes working as a litigation paralegal for a mid-size firm in Boston, MA for two years and with Judge Frederick Scullin in the Northern District of New York.

Dan has worked most recently as Senior Contracts Manager at The Weitz Company where he evaluated and managed risks associated with contract administration for all West Coast projects – including Hawaii and Guam – for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, among other notable experience.

Carni counsels and defends clients in a range of intellectual property issues including trademark registration, copyright disputes, and other litigation matters. With a background in innovation research, she draws on her experience reporting on and evaluating clients’ patentability potential for inventions such as medical devices, computer software, and copolymers.
