1950-1959

Hon. J. Lawson Brown, Sr. L’58 passes away

The Hon. J. Lawson Brown, Sr. passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Born in New York City on September 26, 1932, to Edward and Lydia Lawson Brown, Lawson was raised in Fayetteville, NY. He was educated at CBA in Syracuse NY, Niagara University and Syracuse School of Law. Lawson lived in the Syracuse area and Lowville NY as a young lawyer, and Glenmont and Ballston Lake later in life.

Lawson worked in private practice for several years before joining the New York State Attorney General’s office in 1967 as an Assistant Attorney General. In 1980, Lawson was appointed as a US Administrative Law Judge for the US Social Security Department, where he proudly served until his retirement.

Lawson is survived by his beloved wife Marcia, his children Marcella Barry (Bob), Lawson Brown (Filly), Daniel Brown, Patrick Brown (Pam), and Matthew Brown.

Ronald (Rinaldo) John Buttarazzi L’58 passes away

Ronald (Rinaldo) John Buttarazzi, 90, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at his home in Fairport, NY where he lived with his beloved wife Mary for over 50 years. Born in Rochester, NY, he graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1951, Le Moyne College in 1955 magna cum laude, and from Syracuse University School of Law in 1958 summa cum laude. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Syracuse University Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He also served in the United States Army Reserve.

Ronald practiced law for over fifty years. In addition to his private practice, he served as Perinton Town Justice for nearly 20 years, City Court Judge in Rochester from 1980 to 1986, and as the New York State Assistant Attorney General from 1995 to 1999. He was known for his compassion, fairness, and ability to connect with people from all backgrounds.

Gerald A. Caplan ’55, L’57 passes away

Gerald Caplan is a noted attorney who co-founded the Boulder, Colorado law firm Caplan & Earnest. He passed on June 26 at the age of 92.

Mr. Caplan was notable for his success in education law. He co-founded Caplan & Earnest to focus on representing public school districts across Colorado. Today, more than half the school districts in Colorado are clients. Mr. Caplan also served as lead attorney in several cases that established the legal framework for the law surrounding public education, including Lujan v. Colorado State Board of Education, a landmark school finance case that resulted in significant legislative changes to financing of public education in Colorado and established the foundation for local community control.

After graduating law school from Syracuse University, Mr. Caplan served in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps of the Army before starting his law practice in Boulder. He immediately established a reputation as a skillful trial and appellate attorney, earning his first victory in front of the Colorado Supreme Court in 1963. His name appears in more than 50 published judicial decisions.

In addition to serving as the chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Northern Colorado, he also was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Colorado’s School of Journalism, teaching First Amendment Law. He held the offices of president of the Boulder County Bar Association, Boulder County Public Trustee, Boulder municipal judge, and special assistant attorney general of Colorado. Mr. Caplan was the founding president of the Colorado Council of School Attorneys, president of the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys, the second recipient of the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the most selective honors in the legal community.

Mr. Caplan is survived by his wife Betsy (also a Syracuse graduate), their daughter Lindsay Smith, her husband, Ford Smith, and their children, Kendall Smith and William “Fordie” Smith. He is also survived by their son Jeffrey Caplan, his wife, Emily Caplan, and their children Lucy Caplan (married to Chase Carpenter) and Laurel Caplan.

Alan I. Herman L’59 passes away

Alan I. Herman L’59 passed away on February 10, 2024 after a long illness. Alan was born in New York City in 1936, received a B.S. degree in accounting from New York University, a J.D. from Syracuse University and an LLM from Yale Law School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate, his career taking him to Germany, the Philippines, and five years each as a professor at the Air Force Academy and as an Appellate Judge on the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals, among other assignments.

Alan I. Alan I. Herman, 87, an attorney living in Arlington, VA, passed away on February 10, 2024 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Irene Szopo, two children, Cynthia Herman and Gregory Herman, as well as an abundance of friends. A second son, David Herman, predeceased him. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Audrey Herman, Caroline Morin, Samantha Morin, Benjamin Morin, and his brother Seymour Herman.

John Neil Huber, Jr. (“Neil”) L’68 passes away

John Neil Huber Jr. (“Neil”) passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in Rochester, New York, on the morning of January 31, 2024. He is survived by his three sons, Chris, Matt and Jeff Huber, and his siblings, Gayle, Bill and Ken Huber. 

He graduated from Hamilton College in 1965, and in the top third of his class at the Syracuse University College of Law in 1968. It was at the end of law school, where he met Meimei Lynn McMichael, who also graduated in 1968 from Syracuse’s Maxwell School. They married on August 18, 1968 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in downtown Syracuse and remained married for over 55 years. After so many years together on this earth, it is fitting they’re reunited after only 1.5 months (Meimei passed away December 15, 2023). 

Donald J. Martin ’66, L’68 passes away

Donald J. Martin, 80, of Manlius, died peacefully on February 3, 2024. He was born in Dansville, NY to Clarence and Catherine Martin. He graduated from Syracuse University and then Syracuse University College of Law in 1968. He served in the US Air Force JAG Corps in Sacramento, CA and then Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. Following his service, he returned to Syracuse in 1973 to engage in the private practice of law. Donald started his own law practice which he grew and eventually merged with the Harris Beach Law Firm. Donald was an adjunct professor of trial practice at SU College of Law.

Charles A. Scarminach L’68 to be honored by South Carolina Bar

Charles A. Scarminach L’68 will be honored by the South Carolina Bar for 50 years of practice at their annual Nifty Fifty luncheon on September 13, 2024.

John (Mark) McCarthy L’69 passes away

John Mark McCarthy, known as Mark or J. Mark, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2024.

Mark was born in Syracuse on November 29, 1937. He was immediately welcomed with joy and open arms by his two older sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth O’Leary) and Ann Cornelia (Connie Coates), as well as his maternal aunt, Louise “Goog” McLaughlin, and his parents, Mark Patrick “Mac” and Elizabeth “Bess” (nee McLaughlin) McCarthy, who all continued to dote upon him for the rest of their lives, as he was, as they said, “one of the good ones”; full of fun and games, jokes, yo-yo tricks, ice cream runs, laughter and, when needed, caring advice delivered with unconditional love and support.

Mark’s family operated the famous McCarthy’s Seafood House on Salina Street from 1873 through 1973, and they lived near Maloney’s on Stinard Ave. Mark attended Most Holy Rosary, graduated from high school in 1955 and, having secured an ROTC scholarship, attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass, and graduated with an Economics degree in 1959. That same year, on July 4, he married his high school sweetheart and the salutatorian of their class, Margaret “Peggy” Kerwin, at Rosary, with a brunch reception at Drumlin’s. Mark also attended Syracuse University College of Law, graduating in 1969 and commencing his 40+ year law career. In those early lawyer days, and while still running the restaurant, Mark was renowned for hosting popular clam bakes for his law school and young attorney friends and colleagues.

Frederick A. Gertz ’68, L’73 to be honored by South Carolina Bar

Frederick A. Gertz ’68, L’73 will be honored by the South Carolina Bar for 50 years of practice at their annual Nifty Fifty luncheon on September 13, 2024.

C. Gregory Watts L’73 passes away

C. Gregory Watts L’73, age 75 years, of Delaware Township (Sergeantsville), NJ, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Greenwich, CT, May 22, 1948, son of the late William Charles Watts and Dorothy Hall Watts, he had resided in Delaware Township, NJ since 1977. An attorney, Greg was a 1970 graduate of Lafayette College and received his Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University in 1973.

Greg was a member and Past President of the Hunterdon County Bar Association; formerly served as Chairperson of the Large Foundation; and was a former board member of the Hunterdon Medical Center. In addition, he was a former member of the Flemington Rotary and former board member of the Center for Educational Advancement. A lifelong golfer, he was a longtime member of Copper Hill Country Club.

Frank T. Mamat L’74 joins Plunkett Cooney

The Hon. David F. Everett L’76 presides over White Plains’ Westchester County Veterans Treatment Court

Judge David F. Everett L’76 presides with a warm-heart over the Veterans Treatment Court. The Westchester County Veterans Treatment Court (WCVTC) is a problem-solving court developed to address the issues facing veterans who are defendants in certain criminal cases. Participating veterans must enter an agreed-upon guilty plea in exchange for an agreed-upon sentence, generally probation, if the veteran completes the comprehensive one-year program. Judge Everett’s status as a veteran, with three combat zone deployments, gives him a connection with the veterans, which results in them being, in the Judge’s words “more inclined to do what is right so as not to let down the judge, who is a fellow veteran.” The full article can be found in the July 2024 issues of westchestermagazine.com

Laurence (Larry) G. Bousquet L’80 to be honored by the Crouse Health Foundation

Larry and his family have long supported Crouse Health and numerous other community endeavors. In particular, Larry has been a Crouse Health Foundation Board of Directors member since 2005. He served as the Foundation Board Chair from 2015-2018 and is currently the chair of the Nominating Committee. Larry is deeply committed to the Central New York community. In addition to the Crouse Health Foundation board, Larry served as the president of the Hiscock Legal Aid Society, chair of the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Central New York, chair of the Everson Museum of Art, chair of the Rosamond Gifford Foundation, and president and former chair of a study committee on strategic government consolidation for the Onondaga Citizens League, to name a few. Larry serves as the Dunbar Association’s treasurer. He is also a director, treasurer, and co-founder of Central Current, a new home for nonprofit, nonpartisan, and independent journalism.

The Hon. Michael F. Pietruszka L’81 elected corporate secretary of the National Courts and Sciences Institute.

Former Erie County Judge Michael F. Pietruszka L’81 was elected corporate secretary of the National Courts and Sciences Institute at the group’s Annual Meeting.

The National Courts and Sciences Institute is a District of Columbia Not-For-Profit Corporation whose mission is to provide judges on-the-job, case-related scientific and technical training to facilitate procedural management of complex cases with novel scientific evidence.

Since his retirement, Judge Pietruszka has served as the Chair of the Institute’s Molecular, Comparative and Digital Forensics Concentration; and Case Coordinator for the COVID, and the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Strategic Initiatives. He will be serving as the Principal Investigator / Project Director for next year’s Neuroscience and Neurotechnology Strategic Initiative.

Hon. Deborah H. Karalunas L’82 Appointed Administrative Judge for the Fifth Judicial District of NY

The New York court system announced July 29th, the appointment of Judge Deborah H. Karalunas L’82, a central New York trial court judge, as the administrative judge overseeing operations of trial courts in the six counties of the Fifth Judicial District. Chief Administrative Judge Joseph A. Zayas’ appointment of Karalunas takes effect July 10.

A graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, Karalunas was first elected to the Onondaga County Supreme Court bench in 2002. She was re-elected in 2016 and has served as the presiding justice of the county’s Supreme Court–Commercial Division since 2007.

Prior to becoming a judge, Karalunas was a partner at Bond, Schoeneck & King of Syracuse. She began her legal career as a law clerk to Chief Judge Howard G. Munson of the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of New York.

Hon. James P. Murphy L’84 Appointed Deputy Chief Administrative Judge

The Honorable James P. Murphy L’84 was appointed as Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Outside the City of New York, effective June 5, 2023. The appointment was made by Chief Administrative Judge Joseph A. Zayas, with the consultation and approval of Chief Judge Rowan D. Wilson and in consultation with the Presiding Justices of the respective Appellate Divisions.

Justice Murphy was elected as a Justice of the New York Supreme Court in 2004, and reelected in 2018, to serve the Fifth Judicial District, which includes Onondaga, Oswego, Oneida, Jefferson, Lewis, and Herkimer Counties. He was previously elected three times to the Onondaga County Legislature where he served with distinction and rose to the leadership position of Chair of the Ways and Means Committee. In 2019, Justice Murphy was appointed by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks as Administrative Judge in the Fifth Judicial District.

Justice Murphy is a graduate of Bishop Ludden High School in Syracuse, New York, Saint Lawrence University, and Syracuse University College of Law. He was in private practice for 20 years with an emphasis on civil litigation and municipal law. For over 10 years, he served as a full-time and part-time Assistant District Attorney for Onondaga County.

Thomas Zampino L’85 publishes third book of poetry

Zampino L’85 recently published his third book of poetry, Petrichor. Previous titles have included synchronicity (2023) and Precise Moment (2021).

In November 2023 Zampino joined Hogan Lovells law firm in NYC in its real estate department, concentrating in real estate property taxes and valuations (Tax Certiorari).

Stephen C. Cunningham L’86 joins Kaufman Dolowich

Karen Locha Moynahan G’86, L’86 retires as environmental lawyer

Karen Locha Moynahan G’86, L’86 has retired from 37 years of practice as an environmental lawyer in the public sector, most recently as Portland (Oregon) Chief Deputy City Attorney for environmental matters and utilities. Moynahan was recently appointed by Governor Tina Kotek to the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission, which is the state Department of Environmental Quality’s policy and rule making board. She is also on the board of the Oregon Environmental Council, a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to the protection of Oregon’s water, air and land.

Brian P. O’Shaughnessy L’86 to receive 2023 Paul Michel Award

Brian has spent significant time and energy proselytizing for stronger patent rights and fairer licensing and tech transfer, testifying numerous times on the Hill, writing op-eds, and traveling around the country.

Francis J. (Frank) Mulhall L’88 passes away

Francis “Frank” J. Mulhall L’88 of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle.

Frank was born in Norristown, PA on February 28, 1963. He was the son of the late John T. Mulhall, Jr. and the late Eugenia “Jean” (née Felice) Mulhall. He graduated from Fairport High School in Fairport, NY in 1981, from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1985, and from Syracuse University Law School in Syracuse, NY in 1988.

Frank was an accomplished and respected member of the Florida Bar who practiced law in Palm Beach County for 35 years. He was a devout believer and courageous follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a Christian, he dedicated himself to God’s service. In all things, Frank was a man of faith, honor, and integrity. He possessed an exceptional wit, keen intellect, and boundless curiosity, as well as an appreciation of all things beautiful, especially art and architecture.

Professor Andrew Greenberg L’89 receives a Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY’s Pro Bono Champion Award

Professor Andrew Greenberg L’89 received a Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) of CNY’s Pro Bono Champion Award for his work with the VLP’s Immigration Law Program.

Since June of 2022, Greenberg has assisted several families from Afghanistan in Central New York in filing asylum applications with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. A number of College of Law students have also assisted Greenberg with the applications, earning valuable hands-on experience with real-world clients in need of representation. Both Greenberg and the students work with VLP’s experienced immigration legal staff to operate as a team.

During the week of October 16, Greenberg learned that one of the families he helped apply for asylum was granted this important legal milestone.

Greenberg continues to help families navigate the asylum process along with College of Law student volunteers. “The process is short enough for students to interview the clients, prepare written documentation, attend the interview session, and find out the result over the course of two semesters. They benefit from the experience of helping clients with compelling stories that are appreciative of their efforts,” says Greenberg.

Steven D. Lustig G’91, L’94 appointed to International Trademark Association Committee

Lustig has been appointed to the International Trademark Association (INTA)’s Geographical Indications Committee. The committee develops and advocates INTA’s policies on the impact of geographical indications (GIs) and their enforcement on trademark rights.

INTA is a global association for trademark owners and professionals who have dedicated and supported trademarks and related intellectual properties in order to protect consumers to promote fair and effective commerce. INTA has members in more than 6,000 organizations from more than 181 countries.

As a member of the Committee, Lustig will monitor and analyze international developments regarding GIs, which are names or signs used on products that correspond to a specific geographical location or origin. Committee work includes proposing policy recommendations, writing reports and submissions, interacting with GIs organizations, and advocacy in conjunction with relevant committees and staff. DLA Piper Americas Chair Frank Ryan has been elected to a second four-year term, effective January 1, 2025.

Richard Jones ’92, G’95, L’95 elected to Syracuse University Board of Trustees

On Thursday, November 2nd, Richard Jones ’92, G’95, L’95 officially stepped into his role as Syracuse University’s Board of Trustees, a position he accepted back in May.

Richard “Rich” Jones serves as executive vice president, general tax counsel and chief veteran officer for Paramount Global, overseeing worldwide tax planning, structuring, treasury, strategy, operations, litigation and legislative matters for the company, along with all veteran-related initiatives and programming for Paramount. Jones was a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as a member of the 10th Mountain Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment.

He earned a B.S. degree and an M.S. degree in accounting from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, with honors, and a J.D. from the College of Law, with honors. In addition, Jones holds a 1998 LL.M. degree from Boston University School of Law.

Jones describes himself as just a hard-working soldier who has never forgotten where he came from as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. “I still operate like the staff sergeant that I was: head on a swivel, always looking out 1,000 meters,” Jones says. “Our mission at Syracuse University is to provide a world-class education. What should distinguish our approach to serving student veterans? What Syracuse does, which is so unique, is to supplement the classroom instruction with community, support, mentoring and life-coaching and always providing the practical survival skills necessary to be successful in the civilian workplace and beyond.”

He is heavily involved in the OVMA and IVMF as well as supporting student veterans on campus. Last year, Jones was honored as the Hometown Hero and more recently he was also recognized as the Nation’s Finest 50 along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Mike Haynie.

Rhonda L. Maco L’95 G’95 appointed Director of Special Programs at NCC

Rhonda L. Maco, Esq. is the newly appointed Director of Special Programs in the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Affirmative Action at Nassau Community College. In her role she will drive institutional awareness and appreciation of diversity to enhance and foster a culture of inclusion. She joins Nassau Community College from the Suffolk County Department of Law’s Municipal Law Bureau, where she served as a Principal Assistant County Attorney.

Previously, Maco was the Director of Special Projects with the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs. Since 2009 she has run her own firm, the Law Offices of Rhonda L. Maco, PLLC. She has worked as an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College and Monroe College.

Derek Sean Baer G’02, L’02 passes away

D. Sean Baer, 49, was killed in the line of duty on April 9, 2024. 

At the time of his death, Sean was serving as a special agent for the U.S. Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General (USPS OIG), a position he held for nearly 10 years. He began his law enforcement career in 2004 as a judge advocate in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he specialized in military justice, as well as maritime and international law. In 2008, he left active duty to become a special agent for the Diplomatic Security Service at the Department of State. From 2008-12, Sean served in the New York field office in Manhattan specializing in passport and visa fraud investigations, then served as the assistant regional security officer at the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, Gabon. Sean later served as a special agent at the Department of Commerce and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  

Sean graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 2002, earning a juris doctorate (JD) and a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy.  He also earned a master’s degree in strategic intelligence from the National Defense Intelligence College in 2010, a master’s degree in global studies from Humboldt State University in 1999, and a bachelor’s degree in strategic studies from Evergreen State College in 1997.    Sean is survived by his wife, Lineka; three children, Alexander, Evelina and Vivienne

Melanie M. Nowling L’03 appointed Trial Court Administrator for Passaic Vicinage effective Aug. 1, 2024

Assignment Judge Rudolph A. Filko announced today the appointment of Melanie M. Nowling as trial court administrator for the Passaic Vicinage, effective Aug. 1.

Nowling, the family division manager in the vicinage, succeeds Robert D. Tracy, who retires July 31 after 34 years with the Judiciary.

Nowling joined the Judiciary in 2005 as the assistant jury manager in the Hudson Vicinage, a position she held for seven months before becoming a supervisor in the vicinage’s Children in Court Unit in the family division.

She held the position of assistant family division manager from August 2007 to January 2011 before moving to the Passaic Vicinage where she served as civil division manager until she became the family division manager in September 2011.

“I am extremely humbled and grateful to serve Passaic County as the Judiciary’s trial court administrator and thank Director Grant and Assignment Judge Filko for this opportunity. I am honored to be in a position to make a difference in people’s lives and I look forward to continuing the legacy of integrity and dedication set by my predecessor, Robert Tracy. I am thankful to be able to work alongside the dedicated judges, managers and staff in Passaic County, as we continue to uphold the vision and mission of the judiciary,” Nowling said.

Santos Vargas L’04 elected to be president-elect of State Bar of Texas

In a combined election and referendum, Texas attorneys elected Santos Vargas L’04 of San Antonio to be president-elect of the State Bar of Texas and approved all 12 proposed disciplinary rule amendments. Vargas will be sworn in as president-elect during a State Bar of Texas Board of Directors meeting on June 20, 2024, and will serve as president of the State Bar of Texas from June 2025 to June 2026.

Santos Vargas is a former chair of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, co-chair of the Texas Bar Journal Board of Editors, and past president of both the San Antonio Bar Association and the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association. Tom Caruso G’14, L’14 represents clients in contract disputes, trial and appellate litigation and provides strategic and legal compliance counseling. He also advises on employment-related claims, government and internal investigations, white-collar defense, national/cyber security, government contracts, and complex commercial litigation matters. Caruso continues to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Judge Advocate.

Prior to joining Nixon Peabody, Caruso was a judicial clerk to Chief Judge Glenn Suddaby, U.S. District Court, N.D.N.Y., and Justice Bernadette Clark, New York State Supreme Court. Dennis T. Scanlon L’19 joins Goldberg Segalla’s Syracuse office

Goldberg Segalla is pleased to announce they have added Dennis T. Scanlon L’19 to the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Arbitration group in Syracuse.

An experienced trial attorney, Scanlon handles a range of commercial litigation and business disputes of all sizes for businesses, senior executives, investors, financial institutions, and nonprofit organizations. He is engaged in every step of the litigation process, from inception through resolution. He draws on strong litigation and leadership experience developed while serving in various capacities as a Captain with the United States Marine Corps. As a judge advocate, Scanlon worked in the Pentagon, analyzing legal issues arising in military officer misconduct cases. Later, as trial counsel and certified special victims’ prosecutor, he tried dozens of courts-martial – many which were fully-contested trials – to verdict. As a victims’ legal counsel, he represented special victim clients while protecting their rights at all investigative stages and court proceedings. After leaving active duty, Scanlon began serving as a reservist in the Appellate Defense Division, representing Navy and Marine Corps appellants before military courts of appeal.

Scanlon earned his B.S. from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and his J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law.

Aubre G. Dean L’20 joins Blank Rome

Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Aubre G. Dean L’20 has joined the firm’s New York office as an associate in the General Litigation group, which recently welcomed associates Fiona Steele and Heewon Lee. Aubre joins Blank Rome from Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP.

Aubre has experience representing foreign states, state-owned entities, and private parties in federal and state courts across a variety of disputes, including judgment enforcement actions, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secret, and other complex commercial litigation matters. Aubre also has experience advising college and Olympic athletes during internal investigations. Earlier in her career, Aubre focused on Title IX related matters.

In addition to her litigation work, Aubre maintains an active pro bono practice and has submitted several amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court for cases involving LGBTQ+ and veterans’ matters. She previously helped secure the early release of an incarcerated client as a result of federal civil rights litigation.

Admitted to practice in New York and Texas, Aubre received her J.D., cum laude,from Syracuse University College of Law and her B.A. from Texas A&M University. During law school, Aubre served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Kiyo Matsumoto of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and was the associate notes editor of the Syracuse Law Review. Conor M. Bowers L’21 joins Bodman PLC, Detroit

Clee A. Malfitano L’21 joined DLA Piper’s New York office in March 2024 and focuses her practice on business and commercial law.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Clee served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Stewart D. Aaron, Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Before clerking, Clee worked at a prominent Delaware law firm where her practice primarily focused on corporate and complex commercial litigation in Delaware’s Court of Chancery and Superior Court.

For her extraordinary service and contributions throughout her studies, she received the Paul Shipman Andrews Award from Syracuse Law and the Seely Johnson Award.

Autumn R. Burgin L’23 admitted to New York State Bar

Burgin is an Associate in the firm’s Corporate Law, Trusts and Estates and Litigation Practice Groups. Prior to joining Bousquet Holstein, Autumn took part in the firm’s 2022 Summer Associates Program and completed several legal internships, contributing to her diverse legal knowledge and experience.

Andrea Rojas L’23 joins Harris Beach PLLC’s Rochester, NY office

Andrea Rojas L’23 is an associate with the Corporate Practice Group and Financial Institutions and Capital Markets Industry Team. She earned her J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 2023.

Andrea practices in all areas of corporate law, providing counsel to domestic and international business of all sizes and at all stages of growth. Brian Seelinger L’23 joins Knox Law
