Syracuse University Health Insurance Requirement

Syracuse University requires full-time students to have qualifying health insurance coverage that complies with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) throughout their enrollment.

If you need to purchase health insurance (through the university sponsored plan or on your own), the cost of the policy may be included in your cost of attendance so that you may utilize federal student loan eligibility to help pay for your health insurance. To request a budget adjustment, you may submit the Cost of Attendance Adjustment Request for Student Health Insurance[PDF] to LawFinAid@syr.edu.

If a student has adequate private health insurance coverage, the mandatory health insurance fee may be waived by completing an online waiver form through MySlice when prompted.

If you are not covered, do not complete the waiver, or do not have qualifying coverage, you will be enrolled in the SU Student Health Insurance Plan automatically and a charge will appear on your student billing statement in the Bursar’s Office.

If you have questions about the Syracuse University Health Insurance Policy and Plan, please visit the Student Health Insurance website, send an email to healthinsurance@syr.edu, or call 315.443.9019.
