Professor Maroney specializes in Constitutional Law, related public law courses and alternative dispute resolution. He has taught at the College of Law for 43 years. Now in phased retirement, Professor Maroney teaches only in the spring semester.
Professor Maroney’s distinguished career includes service as both the assistant attorney general in charge of the Syracuse Regional Office and the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Professor Maroney has worked as a labor arbitrator for the last 35 years.
Professor Maroney earned a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University (1961) and a bachelor of laws degree (1963) from Syracuse University College of Law. He was editor of the Syracuse Law Review and a William Cook Fellow at the University of Michigan Law School. He practiced law with a major New York City law firm. He served as chair and board member of the Central New York chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, and as a visiting professor at the Colorado and Cornell law schools.
