Professor French joined the College of Law faculty in 2000 and was named Associate Dean of the Law Library in 2006. His research interests include Canadian law, legal research, library management and Eritrean legal bibliography, and he taught Canadian Law as well as International, Foreign and Comparative Legal Research. He is a past faculty advisor to the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce.

Professor French graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego. He holds a master of science degree from State University of New York at Geneseo and a master of arts degree from the University of Cincinnati. He earned a juris doctor from Northern Kentucky University, where he was executive editor of the Northern Kentucky Law Review.

Professor French has had a 40-year law library career including in court and academic law libraries in Ohio, Kentucky, Maine and North Carolina. Before joining the faculty at Syracuse, he was the Associate Director of the Law Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has served as a consultant for the United States Information Agency and the U.S. Agency for International Development in Africa.
