Richard Southwick is a former prosecutor who has been an adjunct instructor at the Syracuse University College of Law since 1999. He served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office (Syracuse, New York) from 1983-1992 and was the Narcotics Bureau Chief. He then joined the United States Department of Justice in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York where he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney 1992-2024 in both the Criminal and Civil Divisions. He has argued criminal appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and did two foreign assignments for DOJ in Albania in 2001.

Mr. Southwick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from St. Lawrence University (1980) and a Juris Doctor Degree from the Syracuse University College of Law (1983).
