Dan Cantone is a family law settlement advocate and conflict resolution specialist with primary emphasis in Collaborative Law representation and divorce mediation. As past President (2009-10) and a founding Board member of the CNY Collaborative Family Law Professionals, Inc., attorney Cantone continues in a leadership role for an interdisciplinary organization of more than 30 lawyers and allied professionals in the mental health and financial fields all dedicated to out-of-court dispute resolution for couples transitioning to separation and divorce. He is a popular speaker and trainer in the areas of Collaborative Practice, New York divorce law, conflict settlement, and experiential legal education. Prior to establishing his solo practice, Dan was a partner in an AV-rated labor and employment law firm where he represented public and private sector unions and employees in arbitrations, contract negotiations, and civil service litigation.

As an Adjunct Professor of undergraduate legal studies, creative leadership and cooperative negotiation at S.U. from 1985-date and a current adjunct faculty member in the Public Justice department at SUNY Oswego, Dan has instructed a wide variety of classroom and distance learning courses, ranging from Legal Research & Writing, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Children and the Law, and Family Law—to Law & Legal Communication, Corporate Law and Criminal Justice (Summer College for high school students); and he was the 2005 recipient of the Excellence In Teaching Award at University College. Mr. Cantone also operates Mediate West at his office in Camillus where he works with spouses/parents/families as a facilitative Divorce Mediator. He is a Practitioner Member in the Academy of Professional Family Mediators and the NY State Council on Divorce Mediation. At the law school, Prof. Cantone is the faculty coach of the ABA Negotiation Competition team, faculty advisor for the St. Thomas More Legal Society, and teaches LAW 819: Family Law Mediation and Collaborative Law, LAW 772: Alternative Dispute Resolution, and LAW 719: Mediation Skills.
